What is UTCL Topowa?
This is a convenience service that allows customers to borrow airtime when they run out of airtime and are not able to load airtime at the time. The customer repays later when they reload, whether by scratch card, Msente or flexi share.
How does a customer access Topowa?
To borrow airtime, a customer dials *146# and selects the amount they wish to borrow. Alternatively, Customers can also dial *100# and select Topowa.
How does the customer check their outstanding balance?
To check their outstanding debt balance, a customer will dial *146# or *100# under Topowa and then select the “Check balance” option on the Topowa menu.
Who can borrow airtime with UTCL Topowa?
This service is open to all Uganda telecom prepaid customers for as long as they have been active on the network at least 30 days minimal and if they no outstanding debt.
What are the qualification requirements for using Topowa?
In addition to being prepaid, the following requirements must be met in order to borrow the respective amounts:

UGX 500

Must have been active on the network for 30 days or more, and should have loaded total cumulative airtime worth 12,000/- or more

UGX 1,000

Must have been active on the network for 60 days or more, and should have loaded total cumulative airtime worth 15,000/- or more

UGX 1,500

Must have been active on the network for 90 days or more, and should have loaded total cumulative airtime worth 18,000/- or more

UGX 2,000

Must have been active on the network for 90 days or more, and should have loaded total cumulative airtime worth 20,000/- or more
If any of the above conditions are not met for their respective amounts, a customer cannot borrow the specified airtime.
What amounts can a customer borrow, and what are the charges?
Customers can borrow any of the following amounts UGX 500, UGX 1,000, UGX 1,500 and UGX 2,000. A service charge of 10% is deducted when a customer borrows. For example, if a customer borrows UGX 1,000, s/he will receive UGX 900 and the UGX 100 will be used as the service charge.
What can a customer do with the airtime they borrow?
The airtime can be used to make calls & send SMS to UTCL and non-UTCL numbers, surf the internet, flexi share with friends & family and they can buy any of the packages available.
Are there any bonuses awarded to a customer when they borrow airtime?
No, there are no bonuses awarded when a customer borrows airtime.
Is it possible for a customer to borrow if they already have some airtime on their line?
Yes, customers can borrow regardless of the amount of airtime they have on their line.
How long can a customer take without paying back the borrowed airtime?
The borrowed amount is automatically deducted the next time a customer loads airtime or receives airtime from another number via flexi share.
How does a customer pay back for the borrowed airtime?
The borrowed amount is automatically deducted the next time a customer loads airtime or receives airtime from another number via flexi share.
Can a customer borrow airtime when they are in a negative state?
Yes they can borrow airtime even if they have a negative balance.
How many times can a customer borrow airtime?
A customer may borrow airtime as many times as they wish, so long as s/he fulfils the requirements mentioned.
Can one borrow for another number?
No, a customer cannot borrow for another number.

This service allows UTCL Prepaid Customers to Borrow Airtime when they run out of airtime and Pay back later. The offer is available for UTCL Prepaid Customers only.

To Borrow Airtime, UTCL Customers will dial *146# every time they wish to borrow Airtime and select preferred amount.
